Common questions about vaulting your bullion with Standard Bullion. Don't see yours? Contact our team →
Does Standard Bullion hold my stored metal?
No. Standard Bullion doesn't offer or set up storage. Storage is provided by International Depository Services (IDS) in an account you open and hold directly with IDS. We can ship your purchases straight to your IDS vault, but we never take custody of stored metal.
Do I still own my metal in storage?
Yes. Your metal is your property — held for you by IDS, off both our balance sheet and theirs, and never loaned, leased, or hypothecated. Segregated accounts keep your exact bars and coins set aside in your name.
How is my metal insured?
IDS insures all vaulted holdings all-risk under a Lloyd's of London policy covering theft, damage, and loss — protection well beyond a home safe or a bank safe-deposit box, which carries no contents insurance.
What's the difference between segregated and pooled storage?
Segregated storage sets aside your exact serial-numbered bars and coins in your name; you get back the same items. Pooled storage gives you fully-allocated, insured ounces within managed vault inventory at a lower annual rate. Compare the options →
How do I sell metal that's in storage?
When you're ready to sell, ship your metal back to Standard Bullion for a live buy-back quote, or sell and transfer it within IDS. Because it's already authenticated and vaulted, the process is quick and clean.
Can I take physical delivery later?
Anytime. Request fully-insured delivery from IDS and your metal ships from the vault to your door. Segregated clients receive the exact items they deposited.
Where is my metal stored?
In your own account within the IDS Group network — depositories in New Castle, Delaware; Dallas, Texas; and Mississauga, Ontario. You choose the facility. See the locations →
What does storage cost?
IDS sets annual storage fees based on the metal, quantity, and whether you choose segregated or pooled storage. Contact us and we'll help you get a quote →
Can I store IRA metal?
Yes. The IDS depositories are IRS-approved for precious-metals IRAs, so retirement metal can be held in a qualifying segregated account. Learn about a Precious Metals IRA →
